The Murer House foundation continues its Italian language classes at the Murer House Learning Center, 1125 Joe Murer Court, in old Folsom. Students can learn Italian in small, supportive classes designed to maximize contact with the teacher.
Classes are eight weeks in duration.

Italian Level 8 (Italiano Otto) with Ellie - In Person
Mondays starting January 5th - February 23rd; 5:00 - 6:30 pm
Italiano da Viaggio (Travel Italian) with Dan – In Person
Mondays starting January 5th - February 23rd; 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Planning a trip to Italy? This beginner-friendly class will teach you practical Italian for real-life travel situations. Learn essential phrases for getting around, ordering at restaurants, asking for help, and making simple conversation. We’ll also explore Italian culture—music, art, food, and traditions—to help you go beyond the tourist experience.
This course is designed to build your confidence in speaking and understanding Italian in a fun and supportive environment. Materials will be provided by the instructor. No prior experience required!
Italian, Level 1 (Italiano uno) with Anthony - In Person
Wednesdays starting January 7th - February 25th; 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Have you been attracted to the melody of the Italian language? Intrigued by the Italian culture and Italy’s traditions? The fall Beginning Italian 1 class is designed to be fun, while introducing you to this musical language and interesting culture. No previous knowledge is necessary. We will follow the Prego 6th edition textbook as a general guide, utilize hand-outs in the classes, and practice very simple, everyday conversations and dialogues. Please note, make sure you have the 6th edition text, since the other editions are significantly different. (A good textbook website to check is www.directtextbook.com/isbn/0072561319.)
Italian, Level 2 (Italiano due) with Ellie - In Person
Tuesdays starting January 6th - February 24th; 5:00 - 6:30 pm
Italiano 2 is for students with a basic knowledge of vocabulary and who understand how to formulate a simple sentence. Ideally students would have covered the preliminary and chapter one of the Prego! text. Basic language skills and pronunciation are continuously practiced. Italiano 2 continues to present culture while developing at level communication skills as guided by chapter 2. The goals are to have fun and enjoy learning while acquiring effective communication in Italian
Intermediate Conversational with Jim - In Person
Thursdays starting January 15th - March 5th; 3:00 - 4:30 pm
Practice helps improve your language skills. We will converse in Italian (English when needed), we will read, translate and discuss stories and songs, we will practice important conjugation, pronunciation and oral expression skills. Students in this class learn as much as they find helpful, from many things they can read and translate and from the time conversing in class. Above all, I strive to make what you're learning interesting and helpful. You do not need a textbook for this class, because all materials are sent out six days before each lesson.

Italian 1 (Italiano Uno) with Ellie - In Person
Tuesdays starting March 25th - May 13th; 5:00 - 6:30 pm
This class is for students with little or no knowledge of Italian. Some of the topics covered are pronunciation, basic greetings and conversation, numbers, months and days, and basic vocabulary. The emphasis will be on developing oral communication. The ultimate goal is to have fun and enjoy the learning process! This class utilizes the Prego! textbook.
Italian Level 5 Class (Italiano Cinque) with Ellie - In Person
Mondays starting March 10th - April 28th; 5:00 - 6:30 pm
Italiano 5 introduces the past tense called passato prossimo. Learners expand their knowledge to utilize additional Italian language concepts. Students continue to increase their proficiency in all communication skills, pronunciation and culture. Ideally, students would have covered concepts up to chapter 4 in Prego! 6ed. A foundational priority is to enjoy, have fun learning while acquiring effective communication in Italian.
Italian Level 12 (Italiano Dodici) with Lorella - Remote via Zoom
Mondays starting March 25th - May 13th; 5:00 - 6:30 pm
This intermediate class is for students who have already covered the present tense, direct and indirect object pronouns, ci and ne, double pronouns, past tense, imperfect, reflexive verbs and piacere verb. More complex grammar topics will be covered, and students will work towards improving their speaking and listening skills. This class is slow paced so you can assimilate the grammar rules through speaking and listening activities.
Student fees are $170 or $155 with a member discount. Student fees are payable to “The Murer House Foundation” and are due at the first class. Student fees are non-refundable. If an exception is made, the refund would be less the merchant processing fee.
The textbook used for all the language classes is Prego! 6th Edition and can be purchased used online on Amazon.com. For Travelers and Intermediate Conversational, please contact the instructor for more information.
